There are two different ways you can use your Roku device to filter with VidAngel.
1. You can download the VidAngel channel onto your Roku.
2. You can simply use your mobile VidAngel app (on an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet) to cast your filtered content to your TV
How To Add The VidAngel Roku Channel Directly On Your Roku:
* The very first step is to delete the device connections in VidAngel if you have ever connected a Roku to VidAngel before. Log into your VidAngel account online (https://www.vidangel.com/devices) and delete all the Roku connections by pressing the blue button to the right of the device.
Now, you are ready to add the new VidAngel channel on your Roku device.
If you already have the VidAngel channel on your Roku device, you can skip this part and simply update the Roku. On your Roku, use the remote control to go to Settings > System > System Update and click on "Check now"
The VidAngel-Beta Roku Channel is not in the Roku app store, so you will need to manually add it to your device. To add the VidAngel-Beta Roku Channel, try one of the methods below (if one method doesn't work for you, try the other one!). Both methods are one-time setup steps only.
METHOD ONE: A DIRECT LINK
- In a browser, go to my.roku.com/add/vidangel and log into your Roku account. (Use the same email found on your Roku under Settings > System > About)
- You will be directed to add our channel. When the warning pops up telling you it is not a certified Roku channel, simply click "OK" and then "Yes, add channel"
- On your Roku, use the remote control to go to Settings > System > System Update and click on "Check now"
- Still, on your Roku, click "OK" and then go back to the home screen. The VidAngel channel should appear at the end of the list of channels.
METHOD TWO: CHANNEL ACCESS CODE
-
- Visit your Roku account at https://my.roku.com/account/add and log into your Roku account. (Use the same email found on your Roku under Settings > System > About)
- When asked to "Enter a channel access code to add a public channel, a non-certified channel, or a beta channel to your Roku account", enter "VidAngel" and add the channel.
- Select "OK" when it warns you it's not a certified channel.
- On your Roku, use the remote control to go to Settings > System > System Update and click on "Check now"
- Still, on your Roku, click "OK" and then go back to the home screen. The VidAngel channel should appear at the end of the list of channels.
Connecting Services on the VidAngel-Beta Roku channel:
1. Open the new VidAngel Roku Channel.
2. Make sure the VidAngel channel is linked to your VidAngel account. Here is a direct link you can use to link the device to VidAngel: https://www.vidangel.com/devices
3. Returning to the Roku, from our homepage on the Roku, go to the top and click on "CONNECT"
4. You will need to be connected to Amazon and/or Netflix online at www.vidangel.com or on the VidAngel mobile app.
5. On the Roku, select "SYNC" to sync the connection you made online or in the VidAngel mobile app.
6. A blue checkmark will appear when the connection is successful.
How To Use The VidAngel Mobile App To Cast To Your Roku:
Here's how to get started: (Watch the video first)
- Download the VidAngel app to your mobile phone from the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store.
* iOS: Download iOS app here. Or search for "VidAngel" in the iTunes Store.
* ANDROID: Download the Android app here. Or search for "VidAngel" in the Google Play App Store.
- Now get your Roku ready and turned on. Check that your phone is on the same WiFi network as your Roku.
- Either browse or search for the movie/show you would like to watch. When you find something you would like to watch, set your filters and then tap on the "Watch With Amazon (or Netflix)" button.
- The movie/show will then verify the title.
- Once the movie/show is done verifying, you are ready to watch. Tap on the "Sent To TV" button. This will open the casting tab to allow you to pick your Roku device to cast too.
- You should see the Roku device(s) in the purple Roku icon, indicating that your Roku is on the same internet network as the mobile app and the app can see the device.
- Tap on the Roku device you want to use and once connected, the movie/show will start on your TV screen. The best part is, you can close the app on your phone to use it for surfing the web, cruising Facebook, or making calls. You can even turn your phone off and use the Roku remote to control the movie!
