"I remember CleanFlicks and CleanFilms from 10 years ago. A judge shut them all down for breaking copyright law. How is VidAngel any different?"
VidAngel is completely legal.
CleanFlix and CleanFilms were ripping DVDs, creating an edited copy of the work, and then re-burning derivative copies to sell to customers. This was illegal.
Unlike CleanFlix and CleanFilms, VidAngel doesn't make a fixed copy of the filtered work. VidAngel is more like a very powerful remote control. Anything you can do manually on your own computer, you can accomplish using VidAngel. With VidAngel you are simply muting or skipping swearing, nudity, and violence.
In addition, VidAngel is protected by the Family Entertainment and Copyright Act of 2005 and by the “fair use” doctrine enshrined in the Copyright Act.
