There are 3 types of filters you can set.
1. Default Filters (applies to all new movies you start)
2. Movie Specific Filters (filters applied to a specific movie or episode only and supersede Default Filters)
3. Parental Controls (override all other filters and cannot be changed without the parental pin).
Getting Started: How Do I Set My Filters?
Setting your Filters is easy. There are five main categories to choose from.
Within each category, there are numerous sub-categories for you to choose from.
Next to each category, you will see a video symbol. The symbol represents something that you will skip over when it is crossed out. When selected to be filtered, it will have a grey line through it letting you know that one or more filters are set in that category.
To the left of each specific filter, there is an icon indicating how this filter will affect your show.

Sound Icon- representing something you will hear:
To activate a Filter simply tap on it. If the filter description is dimmed and has a line through it, you will not see or hear those items.
If the Filter is white and fully visible, you will see and hear those items.
These Filters apply to every new title that you watch. They can be applied by opening your VidAngel mobile app and tapping on the "Filters" button at the bottom of the app.
If you are on a mobile device AND using our webpage (www.vidangel.com), you can press on your "Profile" to see your Default Filters.
If you are on a PC or Laptop, your Default Filters are right on the top of your screen.
Note: Default filters cannot be adjusted on the VidAngel Roku App.
Default Filters use broad categories that can apply to all new movies you start. To select your Filters, tap the Filter category, subcategory, or individual Filter. When the Filter is activated, it will be applied to each new movie you watch.
** You may change these settings at any time, however, your changes will only apply to all shows you have not yet watched.
Movie specific Filters (filters applied to a specific movie only) will always supersede Default Filters.
Movie Specific Filters
Movie-specific Filters are the filters you've selected for the specific movie you want to watch. When opening a movie or show you will see text that says something like "FILTERS 23/32".
Tap the Filters button and you will be able to see the specific filters of any given movie. (In the VidAngel Roku App, there is a filter icon below the movie name.) Once you're in the filters screen, you can customize your movies even further by taking out any objectionable content.
Filters are enabled by tapping directly on the Filter itself (use the drop-down icon to the side of the Filter categories and sub-categories to access additional Filters).
Changing Filters in the Middle of a Movie
- Stop the movie.
- Select the Filters button.
- Make the changes you desire to your movie's Filters. (Once you have begun a movie, these changes must be made in the movie specific Filters, not in your Default Filters.)
- Restart your movie with the new Filter settings.
NOTE: If you set movie-specific Filters they will remain saved once you leave the movie. Movie specific settings will override any Default Filter settings. Once you have watched a movie, or set movie specific Filters, changes to your Default Filters will not modify your existing choices for that movie. Default Filters will only apply to movies that do not have movie specific Filters selected.
These were designed to give you, the parent, total control. These filters cannot be changed without going to our website and entering your Parental Pin.
Parental Controls allow you to lock filters on the account. Any movie, new or previously watched, will have these filters applied. To find the Parental Filters, go to www.vidangel.com/account and select "Manage Parental Controls" or simply click on your profile on the VidAngel website and then select "Set Parental Controls"
If this is your first time activating parental controls, create a Parental Pin that is 4-10 digits long. If you are returning, simply enter the Parental Pin you created in the past.
NOTE: If you cannot remember your "Parental Pin" you will need to reach out for assistance at email@example.com and include the last 4 digits of the card that is used for billing on your account so we can verify you are the adult on the account.
Once you have entered the Parental Pin, you can set any filters you wish to be "LOCKED" in your account. These filters cannot be changed through the app or website unless you return to the Parental Controls and enter your PIN.
